Brian Boner

Brian Boner is an oil painter who focuses his work around the concept of memories. Many of his figures are based on photographs he has taken of children. According to Boner children are some of the most innocent creatures on the planet. They may make knee jerk decisions and desire instant gratification however, they are all pure at heart. He believes that how they deal with various situations all influence the person they will become. It’s almost as though Boner captures these children in time in a dream like state, a painted memory that these kids can look back on one day and recall how their past has made them who they are today.

Boner recieved is B.F.A from Minnesota State University back in 1975. Most of his group and solo exhibitions have occured in the place he currently resides in, Arizona. He absolutely loves working on large canvases so that he can include miniscual details in his works. What I really love about his works is the childhood imagination he incorporates into his pieces. Its almost as if his children are placed in front of a background of sidewalk chalk and, creative doodles that come to life in their own alternate world. This work below is one of my favorites. Children always have this sense of invincibility, that anything they want to be is completley attainable. This is something I think adults lack. Many adults are realists and let their dreams fall by the way side however, children have an unmatchable determination to believe that anything is possible. In this work a little boy pilots a plane through his own imagination staring in awe and what his mind has created.
